Low Season Growth Research Methodology
This page explains how Low Season Growth builds its public research notes and proprietary descriptive metrics.
Purpose
LSG research is designed to help independent hotels, B&Bs and guesthouses understand seasonality and commercial timing. It is not a substitute for property-level revenue management, forecasting or official statistics.
Primary data sources
Where possible, LSG uses primary public sources such as Eurostat and national statistical authorities. Each research note identifies the source used and links back to the original material so readers can verify the underlying data.
LSG Peak-to-Trough Concentration Gap
The LSG Peak-to-Trough Concentration Gap is a descriptive metric created by Low Season Growth to make annual tourism concentration easier to compare.
Formula: share of annual accommodation nights in the two busiest months − share of annual accommodation nights in the two slowest months.
The result is expressed in percentage points.
How to interpret it
A larger gap indicates that accommodation demand is more concentrated around peak months relative to the weakest months. A smaller gap indicates a more even distribution across the year.
The metric does not measure hotel profitability, pricing quality, occupancy performance or the commercial performance of any individual property.
Limitations
- national tourism data does not represent every destination or property equally;
- different hotel segments can have very different booking patterns inside the same country;
- the metric describes concentration rather than explaining its causes;
- changes in data definitions or reporting can affect comparability;
- LSG research notes are descriptive analysis, not forecasts.
Editorial standards
LSG distinguishes between official source data, calculations created by Low Season Growth, and commercial interpretation. Proprietary calculations are labelled clearly and are not presented as official statistics from the underlying source.
Corrections and updates
If a primary source is revised or a material calculation error is identified, LSG may update the relevant research note and its methodology statement. The article update date records the latest published version.
