Revenue Hub has published Agentic Hotel AI Needs Attribution, Not Just Automation, an original contribution written by Vincenzo Proto, founder of Low Season Growth.

The article explores a question that hotel owners, revenue managers and commercial teams should ask as AI systems move beyond recommendations and begin executing actions: how do we know whether an automated intervention actually created economic value?

Why attribution matters for hotel AI

A system might launch a campaign, change an offer or register additional bookings without proving that those bookings resulted from its actions. The article distinguishes four different levels of evidence:

  • Execution: a commercial action was authorised, carried out and verified.
  • Observation: reservations or completed stays appeared in the hotel's records.
  • Traceable association: an outcome can be linked to a campaign or booking path under documented rules.
  • Incrementality: a credible comparison supports a claim that the intervention changed the outcome.

These are related questions, but they are not interchangeable. The article argues for examining realised economic contribution after relevant costs, not just occupancy, gross revenue or campaign activity.

More room nights can still mean less contribution

A fully hypothetical illustration shows room nights rising from 40 to 56, an increase of 40%, while the economic contribution of the stay window falls from €3,500 to €3,230, or €270 less. The example is not a client case study, a measured LSG result or proof that AI caused the decline. It illustrates why a higher booking count does not by itself establish greater economic value.

The piece also discusses the limits of attribution, the role of pre-planned comparisons and why commercial AI should preserve an evidence trail linking diagnosis, approval, execution, bookings, costs and learning.
