Hotel Low-Season Packages: 10 Offer Ideas That Protect Your Rate

|

When low-season demand weakens, many properties go straight to discounting. A better first question is: can we make the stay more valuable before making the room much cheaper?

Packages can help independent hotels and B&Bs create a clearer reason to book while protecting rate. The best package is not the one with the most inclusions. It is the one that makes sense for a specific guest and period.

1. Two-night local escape

Combine accommodation with breakfast, late checkout and one simple local benefit. This works well for drive markets and short-break guests who need an easy reason to travel.

2. Food and wine weekend

Partner with a restaurant, winery, food tour or local producer. The package becomes more compelling when the destination already has a strong gastronomic identity.

3. Remote-work stay

Offer reliable Wi-Fi, workspace, flexible housekeeping, coffee or breakfast and a longer-stay benefit. This is most relevant where the property and destination can genuinely support productive stays.

4. Wellness break

If the property has wellness facilities, or can partner with a nearby spa, combine accommodation with access, treatment credit or a relaxed check-out policy.

5. Event-based stay

Build around a festival, concert, exhibition, sporting event or conference. The package can include transport guidance, parking, early breakfast or a flexible arrival time.

6. Midweek value package

Create a Monday-to-Thursday proposition with an inclusion that does not apply on weekends. This can help shift flexible leisure guests into weaker weekdays.

7. Long-stay low-season package

Offer benefits for three, five or seven nights rather than only lowering the nightly price. Consider laundry support, workspace, parking or local transport where relevant.

8. Direct-booking package

Keep a specific package available only through the property website or direct enquiry. The benefit can be modest, but it should be visible and meaningful enough to give the guest a reason not to book through an OTA.

9. Experience-led package

Combine the room with hiking, cycling, museum access, a cooking class, guided tour or another experience that is actually available during the quiet period. Avoid promoting experiences that are seasonal themselves.

10. Flexible cancellation package

Sometimes flexibility is more valuable than a deep discount. A direct rate with better cancellation terms can reduce perceived risk, especially in periods when weather or transport may be less predictable.

How to choose the right package

Start from the guest segment, not from the list of extras. Ask who could realistically travel during the weak period, what problem the package solves and which inclusion adds genuine value.

Then check the economics. Calculate the real cost of each inclusion and compare it with the discount you would otherwise apply. A package should improve perceived value without quietly destroying contribution margin.

Make the package easy to understand

Use one clear name, one target guest, one date range and a short list of benefits. If the offer requires several paragraphs to explain, conversion will suffer.

Use direct packages strategically

Low-season packages are especially useful when they strengthen the direct channel. Link them from a dedicated landing page, email campaign and relevant destination content.
